Old Fashioned

We have a short history of this iconic drink in our Blog along with an interesting variation called the Temptationed. Here is the classic drink: a simple, unadulterated mixture of bourbon, sugar, and bitters. It does take time to build up this drink so go at it slow and steady and you will be quite rewarded.

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 dashes AZBL Orange Sunshine bitters
  • 1 strip of orange zest
  • 6 ice cubes

Build this drink slowly in an Old Fashioned glass. Start by dropping in the sugar cube and soaking it with 2 dashes of bitters. Cut a 1 inch strip of orange zest and drop it in the glass. Add a splash of water and a splash of the bourbon. Muddle the sugar cube and orange zest for 1-2 minutes until the sugar dissolves into a slurry.

Next add 2 ice cubes and some of the bourbon, stir for 1-2 minutes.
Add 2 more cubes and more bourbon and continue to stir.
Add 2 more cubes and the remained of the bourbon and stir another 1-2 minutes.

Champagne Cocktail

  • 1 sugar cube
  • 2 dashes AZBL Mi Casa bitters (or Orange Sunshine bitters)
  • Sparkling wine (a decent Cava or Prosecco works wonderfully here)

Drop the cube in the bottom of your champagne flute. Soak the cube with a couple of dashes of bitters. Add the sparkling wine.

  • 1 sugar cube (Demerara cube, if you have it)
  • 2 oz rye
  • 2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
  • 1 dash AZBL Mi Casa bitters
  • absinthe
  • lemon peel

Rinse an Old Fashioned glass with absinthe (we use an atomizer to spray the inside of the glass) and put in freezer to chill.
Drop the sugar cube into a second Old Fashioned glass and muddle with a splash of water.
Add the rye and bitters plus a few ice cubes and stir until chilled
Strain into prepared, chilled glass. Express lemon oil over glass, rub edge of rim with zest, and discard the zest. Cheers!

Gin & It

  • 1.5 oz gin
  • 1.5 oz sweet vermouth (like Dolin rouge)
  • 1 dash AZBL Mi Casa bitters
  • orange peel garnish

Add gin and vermouth to stirring glass. Add ice, stir to chill, and strain into a chilled coupe. Express orange oil over glass, rub edge of rim with zest. Cheers!
